Bringing a forgotten farm roaring back to life.

Challenge

Under the thick growth on 75 acres on Hawaii island, life and business partners Scott Buske and Megan Collins were amazed to find an old orchard and started raising bees. As they began to diversify into macadamia nuts they needed new equipment.

Our Role

Loans helped Scott and Megan buy inoperable equipment that, as a talented mechanic, he was able to refurbish. Now the abandoned farm and the discarded equipment are productive again.

Impact

Now they are buying coffee beans from neighbors and selling their 100% Ka’u coffee, flavored macadamia nuts, and honey as Hawaii’s Local Buzz in Foodland and gourmet markets.

Mama Tong, a Chinese herbal soup company, needed new equipment for a commercial kitchen to make nutritious soups and broths for new mothers.

Impact

Mama Tong has what it needs to continue to expand distribution of traditional Chinese soups designed for childbirth recovery and breastfeeding support.

Challenge

Chongyee Xiong tends his small farm after he comes home from work. When his well dried to a trickle due to drought, he and his wife were forced to sleep in the fields, and move the hose every two hours.

Our Role

Agribusiness has wells as deep as 1000’, Xiong’s well was just 100’. We loaned him the funds needed to deepen the well and help his small farm thrive once again.

Impact

Xiong continues to grow healthy produce without harmful pesticides, and is able to grow and share the vegetables of his homeland with the Fresno community.
